Hi there,

This is a newbie question, just to understand the best practice regarding the App folders.

When I look at the SEBLOD App folder Manager, I realize that there are some Apps composed by different little others.

For example, if I look at the App "User", there are 3 sub apps: Base, Basic and Profile. Is this just the way Joomla works?

To be more specific for my own needs, I can take the Article App example: I can see that there's Metadata and Publishing sub apps. When I create a new App, for a new content type, should I create sub apps for publishing and metadata informations, or should I insert them in my main app? Should it be more modular, extensible, or something else?

Thanks for your answers.

Best.

Hello JuJ,

good point. As far as I know, it is mainly for personal structure and organization. i.e. on creating list and search types you can choose the exact app sub-folder and only those fields will show up in the sidebar. Otherwise the sidebar/field-list is endless and you would have to scroll the whole day long. With sub-folders you can focus on a certain group of fields.

Thanks a lot for your answer, Pepperstreet.

Ok, I understand. Good to know! Probably useful for big apps.

Thanks again! :)

Even smaller "Apps" can get complex very quickly. If you need all options of a typical core article you will get the idea. Also hence the use of "groups". Groups have their own form... so it is really helpful to keep them in their own sub-folder.

Another example is an "App" with many different content types and forms. You might want to export/import the different parts separately. Again, if you organize the app parts in sub-folders, you can easily export and transfer them individually.
