Hej SEBLOD Team,

I've been using Seblod for ages. I've been waiting for version 4 for a long time. My customers will not wait any longer. It's a shame.

Kind regards Castor

Hi,

I agree. it would help me a lot if you could publish a timeframe for the release of Seblod 4.
It does not make sense for me to start new projects with Joomla 3, just because there is no J4-version of Seblod availabe.

I simply don't know at the moment if it makes sense to wait or to look for a different solution.

I appreciate your work and can understand that it takes a lot of time to develop a new version, but more information about the next major release would help a lot to plan current and future projects.

Thank you and many greetings
Sven

Exactly the same set of reasons that led us asking the question.  We are at a crossroads.  We are a Joomla website design company and we need to implement Joomla v4.  We have been using SEBLOD for years, but we need to make a decision to move forward.  Thus, any info would be greatly appreciated.  Hate to keep asking.

Hi All,

Thanks for your interest in the upcoming SEBLOD release!

You'll be able to start/launch your projects on Joomla! 4 with the Release Preview (and GA) in June.

Of course you can start with Joomla! 3 and SEBLOD 3 now, and then upgrade to Joomla+SEBLOD 4 when we release it, in June.

Hi,

Thank you for this release but I think there are bugs.

When I want to create a dynamic search field, it doesn't work.

I upgraded an existing site to perform tests. This site has a lot of different content types.

Unfortunately I am unable to add new content.

Hello nycxav,

Currently it's normal.

As you can see in the the blog post SEBLOD 4.0 series, this first SEBLOD 4 Release Preview 1 is only intended to be installed on a fresh Joomla! 4 for new developments.

For upgrading there is a Known issue because of STRICT_TRANS_TABLES, we will provide SQL updates/details or workaround in upcoming packages.

Best regards.

Hi Laurent,

It should be fixed with the Release Preview 2.
This issue was not related to SEBLOD 4 nor Joomla! 4, but related to PHP 8.x, and please note that the full PHP 8.x support for SEBLOD has yet to be announced, so additional issues may be found.

Thanks for releasing rp2.

I have a question: What is the difference between rp2 and rp2b?

Hi Marco,

There was a small issue in the rp2 (migration info displayed for install, and not only for upgrades) which is fixed by rp2b.

Now rp2 package is removed from GitHub.

Thanks,

Saba

Any update?

  • Aug 04 — SEBLOD 4 Release Preview 3   (delayed)
Suitable for new developments or upgrades of existing sites.
  • Aug 12 — SEBLOD 4 General Availability  (delayed)

Which one can I wait for? When it will be available for download?

Hi,

The Preview 3 was released (on GitHub only - no blog post) on Aug 12:

https://github.com/Octopoos/SEBLOD/releases/tag/4.0.0-rp3

Feel free to test the release if you wish. Another release (and its dedicated blog post) should be available on Aug 19.

Please note that it may not be called GA (if all UI parts are not completed or if there are known issues).

Thanks for quick reply. I hadn't seen it because I was following through the "Community" menu. I believe other people are also waiting for a post with updates there.

In Germany some Webhosters start to skip PHP 7.4 support and force you to change to PHP 8.
For some of my Joomla 3/Seblod projects i have to decide now if waiting for a stable seblod 4 version makes sense.

Can some seblod team member please give some info, if stable version of seblod 4 is still coming this year?

Hi Yuberlin,

You don’t need to move on Joomla 4 to use PHP 8. You can do it on Joomla 3 with last SEBLOD 3 version. Of course if you added some custom code, you will need to check PHP 8 compatibility on it.

Octopoos agency is running in production websites on PHP 8 with Joomla and SEBLOD 3.

Regards.

Unfortunately Seblod 3.23 doesn't seem to be fully compatible with php 8. Some of my site forms work, others don't.

I am trying to go through the plugins used to find out what exactly makes it fail but in any case all the plugins come from the Seblod site some of them as paid add-ons.

So, I have the same problem as Yuberlin, host forces upgrade to php 8 and seblod 3.23 doesn't fully support it.

Client is willing to upgrade to Joomla 4 but Seblod 4 is not production ready.

Hi,

PHP 8 compatibility for SEBLOD is mainly the same topic on Joomla 3 or Joomla 4.

So if "Seblod 3.23 doesn't seem to be fully compatible" please let us know what is not compatible to be able to fix on Joomla 3 and 4.

Regards.

When I enable PHP 8 mainly the Login form disappears the fields username, name. Sometimes the field appears filled with "0" .

Hi, the problem seems to be line 323 of /libraries/cms/cck/plugin

Message below returned after registering through a Seblod enriched user form:

Non-static method JCckPluginLocation::g_doBridge() cannot be called statically

Unfortunately radio silence.

Joomla 3.10 end of life is in 6 months, in a year for Joomla 4.0 (it was released 18 months ago).

At this rate we won't have a Seblod 4 release before Joomla 4.0 is retired.

So dear Seblod team,
slowly my collar is bursting too. You can't do anything right now. Seblod for Joomla 3 is not compatible with PHP8, the Seblod version for Joomla 4 is overdue for half a year. Explain to the community why we should extend our subscription? Joomla 4 has been released for over 18 months and little to nothing is happening. Also, it is not communicated when the new version is that whether I'm just an update (one click) or whether the data must be migrated. The latter does not work in the Seblod 4 RP7 nähmlich what a disaster comes equal.

So give your backers answers!

Actually Joomla 3 and Seblod run on PHP 8. If you have problems regarding this topic, check your custom templates. I just did an update to PHP 8 with a big multisite Joomla 3/Seblod site with lots of different content-types.

But yes, the problem you talking about ist really annoying. At the moment i'm thinking to move to wordpress with my Joomla3/Seblod sites because i dont want to start these updates 2 weeks before joomla 3 updates end.

The problem is, seblod is much smoother to work with in bigger projects, wordpress needs much more custom coding to achive same result.

Seblod team should give some infos to the community now. Personally i would upgrade to professional support with a finished version of Seblod 4, no problem. But leaving the community with total silence is not very friendly.

Maybe Octopoos could provide some infos what tasks still need to be solved and if there is anything, the community could do to help.

Hi, for now I think they don't have time but I believe that Octopoos should rethink its business model for Seblod. There are many companies in the Joomla! managing to keep up with another payment model.

Here's the suggestion.
