Hello,

I am struggling to overcome an issue with Multi Sites, specifically regarding attempting to share content across sites.  I realize that each object can only be assigned a single viewing access level, so I had hoped to be able to nest each site's user groups and permissions in a way that created separation where necessary, but also achieve a level of content sharing.

My example:

Public (Main installation)
- Site 1
   - Site A
   - Site B
   - Site C
- Site 2
   - Site D
   - Site E
   - Site F

So using the example above, I have created 8 different sites apart from my main installation.  Obviously by assigning an access level of Public, the object is visible on all sites.  I want Site 1 to be a "parent" for sites A, B, and C.  So if I assign an object to Site 1, it will be visible on Site 1, Site A, Site B, and Site C, but not visible on Site 2, D, E, or F.  If I assign an object to Site B, it would only be visible on Site B, no others.  Has anyone done anything like this?  Is it possible to manually adjust the viewing access level and/or user group settings to do this?  How would you do this?  I've been trying, but with no luck thus far.  I would appreciate any advice or guidance.

Many thanks,
Kate

Hi KateD,

I'm not really familiar with the multi site function of Seblod, but as far as I can see you need a separate Access Level for Site 1 which includes Site 1, Site A, Site B and Site C. Another separate AL for Site A, another separate AL for Site B and so on...

- If you edit one of your Site in: Seblod3 > Site > name of your site

- or during a Site creation on the same page

At the bottom right you can see a small "users" icon, click on it and you open "Settings" where you can read:

"In order to control what users can see, you should go to the Joomla! User Manager and then.. edit Users, User Groups and Viewing Access Levels.
If you need to update the initial setup, you should define carefuly which Users, Groups and Access Levels belong to this site... but do not mix up sites here.
If you are not sure what does this mean, do not change these settings."

Hope this can help you, please, let us know your experience...

hi

1 - 'I want Site 1 to be a "parent" for sites A, B, and C.  So if I assign an object to Site 1, it will be visible on Site 1, Site A, Site B, and Site C, but not visible on Site 2, D, E, or F.' - this can be done with users and groups etc.

2 - 'If I assign an object to Site B, it would only be visible on Site B, no others.' if you have the above you would not be be to have this - to our knowledge due to way users and groups would be setup for requirement 1.

we done the above sometime ago however changed from joomla/seblod due to restriction and subdomain limitations on the site using it with.

once you have set the rules they are not able to be changed easily without an effect so think through the structure carefully.

Just an update - I decided to alter the structure of my site to accommodate what I was trying to achieve.  Rather than setting an article up with the permission for a particular site, I set those articles to public and am filtering articles appropriately through seblod searches on each site.  I had missed the existence of the small users icon on the site page, thank you for pointing that out.
