Hello,
exist in the Core System some validation for this.
EXAMPLE
Content-Type: Product
Each product should be one data set validated by the unique product number (for example SD8D8889K)
Validation should be by saving or entering the number in the Form -> "Product already exist"

Short Tutorial:
1. go to Form
2. Choose Number 3 and click optional
3. Choose "Ajax availability"
4. Make your settings
