No. I don't think that is possible. I once created a simple select out of a multiple select through javascript. But these fields are nearly similar and it was purely cosmetic...

If you use exactly the same storage and use the same values for options as in checkbox field, simple select should work.

in order for that to work, does Designbengel has to put that simple select also in the content-form? or is there a way to use a field in search that doesn't exist in de content form?

I think (not tested) that you can add completely new field in search type, the key is to use exactly the same storage
