I've tried Form2Content and it has a, in my opinion, better solution with images.
Here you can define a size to be used, and when you upload the image you get to select which part of the image to use, and to scale it - to fit into the size you've set for the "field".
Anyone else missing a image toolkit to work with a Seblod image field?

you're right, by default, in the core, the upload_image is simple.
we have developed a more advanced plugin image with manual cropping, but not fully finish for a public release.
Be free to contact Octopos if you have a specific need.

Also, if we push some money behind this development, could that mean this field would be prioritized to a finished state quite quickly? :)
